Cap d'Or: the watchtower above Moraira's bay

Moraira's sheltered bay looks different from the Cap d'Or headland above El Portet. The short route to its watchtower climbs from the beach neighbourhood into pine and scrub, then opens a view across the harbour, Calp and the sea. The tower gives the panorama a purpose: this was a coast watched for ships and danger.

The local story

Teulada-Moraira's tourism guide dates the round watchtower to the sixteenth century, part of the defensive system built against raids from the sea. The official SL-CV 51 path makes it possible to read that role on foot. The tower's position matters more than an imagined interior visit: it commands the approaches to a harbour that had long connected the inland town to the Mediterranean.

Plan the visit

Start at El Portet, follow the signed trail and allow for uneven rock and exposed sun despite the route's short length. Keep back from cliff edges and do not climb the tower or cross any barrier. Wind can make the headland feel very different from the calm beach below. Check path notices before setting off and return the same way for a clear view of the bay.

The route links naturally to Benissa's ecological coast path and the headland viewpoints around Xàbia.
